Russia and Kazakhstan intend to increase CSTO capabilities and improve mechanisms for combating terrorism, drugs and other threats, according to a declaration on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Kazakhstan signed by the presidents of the two countries.

"On the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security Treaty and the 20th anniversary of the CSTO, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan, recognizing the key role of the CSTO in ensuring regional security and stability, confirm the focus on jointly enhancing the Organization's capacity. The Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan intend to improve CSTO crisis response mechanisms, combating international terrorism, illicit production and trafficking of drugs and precursors, organized crime and other transnational threats and challenges, develop CSTO peacekeeping forces, and promote the expansion of partnerships between the Organization," the text notes.
