The Citadel of Aleppo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was damaged by the earthquake, Hammam Saad, head of the Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums of Syria, told RIA Novosti.

"We received information about the cracks in the Citadel of Aleppo and sent a team of specialists to inspect the place and assess the damage," said Saad.

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake occurred in Turkey's Kahramanmaras Province Monday at 4:17am local time, causing destruction in a number of cities. It was informed about the resultant devastation that happened in several regions of Syria, too, and the earthquake was felt also in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
