YEREVAN. – Armenia does not import cattle and pigs from the states which registered outbreaks of bluetongue over the recent years, representative from the Armenian Ministry of Agriculture Ashot Hovhannisyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to Hovhannisyan, Armenia imported cattle and pigs from Denmark, Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland, as well as Russia and Georgia over the recent months.

Besides, animals are imported for breeding purposes and not for meat.

Starting from March 20 Russia temporarily suspended the imports of pigs from EU due to Schmallenberg virus and outbreaks of bluetongue. Restrictions refer only to meat, import of  animals under the strict control of veterinarians is not banned.
