YEREVAN. – The National Self-Determination Union’s (NSU) stance toward the Customs Union is negative and substantiated.
Armenia’s opposition NSU Chairman and ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan noted the aforesaid during a press conference on Wednesday.
In his words, the European Union (EU) option is not a matter of orientation, but rather that of health for Armenia.
“It is indubitable that the European Union has to expand [its] borders. And in the case of expansion, Europe’s neighboring countries should be included,” Hayrikyan said.
In his view, the EU should reach all the way to the Atlantic Ocean and from there, to the Pacific Ocean.
“All steps taken in another direction are the manifestations of sickly posturing,” the NSU leader stated.
He also noted that the Customs Union comes to the fore based on violence.
“And violence is alien and foreign in itself, even if Putin, or another figure, ‘uses soft violence,’” Paruyr Hayrikyan added.
In his conviction, no cooperation can reflect on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, since even the OSCE Minsk Group has not offered any solution to this day.
To note, following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union.
