Russian officials have not exerted pressure against Armenia to enter the Customs Union.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan stated the aforesaid Wednesday responding the queries by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) delegates, in Strasbourg, France.

He assured that Armenia will continue working with the European Union (EU) and carry on with its ongoing reforms.

Sargsyan announced that Armenia will participate in the Eastern Partnership summit to be convened in Vilnius, Lithuania, in November.

The President also recalled that Russia is not the sole country in the Customs Union, and there are other countries in this organization.

To note, following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. Aside from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan likewise are members in the Customs Union.
