The U.S. Embassy in Baku said U.S. citizens in Azerbaijan should be mindful of potential demonstrations during the voting period on October 9 and after the election results are announced.
“Although the U.S. Embassy does not anticipate major disturbances, U.S. citizens should nonetheless remain constantly aware of their surroundings and be cognizant about their personal security during and after the election period. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security,” reads the message posted on the Embassy’s website.
It says the official results of Azerbaijani presidential elections will be announced no later than October 23.
