YEREVAN. – EU was ready to initial the Association Agreement with Armenia, European Integration NGO Director Karen Bekaryan said.

The expert said Armenia has registered more considerable progress than Moldova and Georgia on several parameters.

“The EU was ready for initialing Association Agreement with Armenia. All this could be just thrown in the trash. Consequently, this would indicate necessity to walk through some transformed path, but the Europeans realize the following: if they change the course of events with Armenia, they would create a precedent that could have a domino effect, and other partners could use it for their interests,” Bekaryan said.

He believes the EU wants not to create a precedent before Vilnius, to overcome Vilnius and then to decide how to move forward with each of Eastern Partnership country.

There will be differences between European countries: some countries will find that after September 3 relations with Armenia should be frozen and others may have an opposite view.

Vilnius will host the Eastern Partnership summit in November.
