YEREVAN. – At present, Turkey’s accession to the Customs Union cannot be regarded as real.

Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences Institute of Orientology Director, turkologist Ruben Safrastyan noted the above-said during a press conference on Thursday.

“If this game by Turkey continues, it could become real in the future. Now, however, there is no real premise for that,” the analyst added.

In Safrastyan’s conviction, this game by Turkey is linked to the US and the EU, since the latter has suspended negotiations with official Ankara and harshly criticized the Turkish authorities for the incidents that had occurred at Istanbul’s Gezi Park.

“I believe Turkey’s games to join the Customs Union are due to its wish to put pressure on the EU. But this will not go to the extent that it turns into a real process,” Ruben Safrastyan stressed.
