YEREVAN. – The Iraqi foreign minister’s visit to Armenia will give new a impulse to the development of bilateral cooperation. 

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian noted the aforesaid Tuesday during his talk with Iraq FM Hoshyar Zebari, who is in capital city Yerevan on an official visit.

Nalbandian noted that cooperation between the two countries has intensified significantly, and he also welcomed the reopening of the Iraqi Embassy in Armenia.

In turn, Zebari said that Iraq wishes to deepen collaboration with Armenia and this is the primary objective of his visit to Armenia. He also underscored the Iraqi-Armenian community’s contribution to the development of Iraq.   

The interlocutors discussed the avenues for promoting bilateral relations and explored the possibilities of visa facilitation between Armenia and Iraq.   

At the request of his Iraqi counterpart, the Armenian FM presented the ongoing efforts by Armenia and the international community toward a pacific settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The two FMs also reflected on several regional and international matters. 

Following their talk, Edward Nalbandian and Hoshyar Zebari signed a memorandum of understanding on mutual cooperation between the MFAs of Armenia and Iraq.  

Subsequently, the two foreign ministers held a joint news conference.
