The course and outcomes of the discussions on Armenian Genocide in Israeli Parliament (Knesset) are unlikely to result in motion approval, Turkish Studies expert, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of RA NAS Ruben Safrastyan told NEWS.am.

According to him, Israeli Parliament will not do so for two reasons: firstly, Israel still takes Holocaust as an unprecedented tragedy in the history of mankind and is unready to reconcile itself that another nation suffered a similar sorrow; secondly, despite the recent contradictions in Turkish-Israeli relations, the two states are partners and Tel-Aviv will hardly infringe Ankara’s interests.

Replying to the question about the purpose of the Genocide motion inclusion on Knesset’s agenda, Safrastyan said: “Thereby Tel-Aviv seeks to impact Ankara showing its dislike for the recent statements by Turkey.”
