YEREVAN. – It is incomprehensible how the Armenian government is going to attract investments to the Nairit chemical rubber plant in the case when it is put up as collateral at the Interstate Bank.
Non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party National Assembly (PAP NA) Faction member, economist Mikayel Melkumyan, who is also Deputy Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, noted the aforesaid at Tuesday’s parliamentary deliberations on the 2015 State Budget draft.
He noted that no matter what kind of investors are invited, it is technically impossible to make investments in this plant until the debt issues are resolved and the plant is no longer put up as collateral.
“The government does nothing, and the plant’s debts do not disappear. [And] in terms of [unpaid] salaries, on the contrary; they grow. [A total of] 2,460 workers are registered at the plant,” Melkumyan noted.
