The Turkish authorities have identified the terrorist, who attacked the nightclub in Istanbul on the New Year's Eve, Turkish FM Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said Wednesday, Turkish state-run news agency Anadolu reports.  

Earlier, Turkish police arrested five persons in İzmir, who are suspected of implication in organizing the terrorist attack. On the night of January 1, an unknown person attacked a renowned nightclub in Ortaköy neighborhood of Istanbul. Consequently, 39 people including 16 foreigners were killed.

Among the victims of the terrorist attack are citizens of Russia, Lithuania, Libya and Israel, as well as nationals of Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Jordan. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.
