The Nepalese woman has been awarded for releasing more than ten thousand from sexual slavery, reports Reuters. 67-year-old Anuradha Koirala was awarded with Padma Shri, India's most prestigious award. The ceremony will take place in March-April.

"Since 1993, she has helped rescue more than 12,000 women and girls. Through her organization Maiti Nepal, she has provided more than a shelter for these girls and young women, she has created a home,” said the statement posted on the official website of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As Koirala confesses, the reason for her activities are physical and psychological suffering of the victims. 40% of victims of slavery in the world are from India.
