Colombia announced about plans to destroy coca bushes, which are the raw material for cocaine production, reports BBC Russian Service.
The joint program was developed by the government and the rebel group FARC. The farmers who voluntarily destroy coca planting,will receive $ 350 per month. They can also receive loans, grants, technical assistance, and be trained to grow other crops, for example, fruit trees and cocoa.
The government plans to allocate $ 340 million for the program to support the farmers. The authorities note, that the program will include 50 thousand farmers. Colombia's government aims to destroy 100 hectares of coca this year. In Colombia, about 64 thousand families earn from the sale of coca leaves.
