Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel considers the U.S. entry ban against the citizens of seven Muslim countries as contradictory to the international cooperation spirit, Reuters reports.

Commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump’s order on toughening the migration policy, Merkel noted that the necessary, decisive battle against terrorism does not justify a general suspicion against people of a certain origin or a certain religion.

“I think this order contradicts the main principles of providing support to the migrants, as well as to the international cooperation. The German government will do its best, in particular for the citizens with dual citizenship, who may be affected by the order, to determine the legal consequences and to decisively present their interests in line with the law. We are holding consultations with our European partners over this issue,” Merkel said.
