YEREVAN. – Voting on territorial electoral lists was not needed at all in these elections, said Vazgen Safaryan, Chairman of the United Progressive Communist Party of Armenia, at a press conference on Friday.

Safaryan is second on the Communist Party of Armenia national electoral list for the forthcoming parliamentary election in the country.

In his words, the upcoming election should have been conducted solely with national proportional representation lists.

“The people should have elected only [political] parties, and not individuals as well, if desired, since unhealthy competition is already underway today in all thirteen electoral districts of the republic,” stressed Safaryan. “But we hope that those who appreciate the road we [i.e. the communists] have passed and our realistic plans for today will elect us; [that] they will elect us according to our election platform.”

The parliamentary election in Armenia will be conducted on April 2.
