In Armenia singers eagerly deal with politicians’ PR but consider themselves not involved in political processes, media expert Samvel Martirosyan said at the meeting with journalists on Tuesday.

In his words, this radically distinguishes Armenia from western countries, where it is impossible to imagine that one and the same singer or actor can today support the left wing and tomorrow the right one, or today Trump and tomorrow Clinton. Journalists in Armenia also behave freely, openly speaking about favorite and unpopular parties. “In the West, a journalist can be sacked even for liking the page of a politician or party. In Armenia, this is looked upon with indifference, since the political memory of people is much shorter.  Exactly this helps politicians recruit the so-called stars of show business, while the latter consider such invitations only as subsequent orders, showing great surprise when this is called a political advertisement,” Martirosyan noted.

Political technologist Vigen Hakobyan, for his part, noted that singing under a party’s banner “strikes the eyes” stronger if it is the banner of the ruling party. Everything is simpler with the opposition. For instance, jazz pianist Vahagn Hayrapetyan performed at the event of the Yelk (Way Out) opposition alliance but nobody paid attention to this.
