This year was full of key events in the context of Armenia’s foreign policy, Eduard Sharmazanov, spokesperson for the Republican Party of Armenia,  said at today’s press conference, noting that country’s positions in the international arena have been strengthened.

In this context, he pointed out the Karabakh peace process, stressing importance of Astrakhan meeting between the Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani leaders, as well as five-sided statement issued by OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents. “The Astana statement mentions that Karabakh people’s right to self-determination is indissoluble and for the first time makes reference to the UN charter,” he said. Sharmazanov is confident that Armenia has achieved certain progress on the issue.

He considers an achievement that Azerbaijan has twice removed resolution on so-called “occupied” territories from the agenda of the UN General Assembly within 4 months. It is also a precise response to Azerbaijan’s non-constructive policy.

Sharmazanov also touched upon Armenia-Turkey reconciliation, noting that Armenia had reiterated its readiness to normalize relations with Turkey without preconditions. “Relations between two states should be normalized without preconditions. We will not allow anyone to speak to Armenia in a language of ultimatum,” the MP concluded.
