The Higher Regional Court of Hamburg hears appeals on charges against German comedian and satirist Jan Böhmermann over his poem about the Turkish leader, DW reported.

In February 2017, German court ruled that Boehmermann’s poem was satire, but banned him from repeating the sexual references in it.

The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has filed an appeal to contest a decision by German authorities to drop an investigation into Jan Böhmermann.

 It will take several weeks to receive a decision.

Böhmermann recited a condescending poem on his TV show in March, 2016, in which he had criticized Erdogan for his authoritarian leadership.
