A former deputy of the Armenian parliament Karo Karapetyan was killed in a shooting in one of the restaurants in Yerevan on Saturday evening.

When searching the site, police found a handgun belonging to another ex-deputy Harutyun Gharagyozyan. Next day the latter’s body was found in a stone carving workshop in one of the districts of Yerevan on Sunday. Preliminary reports suggest that he had committed suicide.

Another man was wounded in the restaurant and was taken to hospital where he underwent a surgery but remains in a critical condition.

It was later revealed that police was alerted about the incident by another former MP Abraham Manukyan. He told police that he was present during the meeting of Karapetyan and Gharagyozyan who argued over money and financial matters.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he would meet with the leader of Prosperous Armenia party Gagik Tsarukyan and representatives of ARF Dashnaktsutyun.

 “During my stay in Paris, some events have taken place [in Armenia], and which we will definitely take into account,” the PM said.

The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) in turn said they made no decision yet with respect to conducting a snap parliamentary election in December.

Head of RPA faction Vahram Baghdasaryan said holding this election in December is a quite perilous move because, as a result, the next Armenian legislature may end up under the control of solely one political force.

The 35th Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) has kicked off Monday in Yerevan.

The meeting will last two days, whereupon the La Francophonie Summit will get underway, and it will bring together more than 80 delegations from OIF member and observer countries.

At the meeting, the FMs will consider four countries’ applications for membership in this organization, listen to reports by OIF Secretary-General Michaëlle Jean and Armenian FM Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, discuss several organizational matters, and decide on the venue and date of the next meeting.

The Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia confirms the information on detaining businessman Samvel Mayrapetyan.

SIS spokesperson Marina Ohanjanyan said Mayrapetyan was detained on Sunday, and within the framework of a case which the Service is investigating, but provided no other details yet.

Samvel Mayrapetyan is also the owner of a TV company in Armenia.

Armen Gyulbudaghyants has been appointed the manager of Armenia’s national football squad.

 After being appointed Gyulbudaghyants announced the roster for the UEFA Nations League matches against Gibraltar and Macedonia which included Yura Movsisyan.
