Forecasts on “warm autumn” are inept as situation in Armenia will develop in the natural course and with no incidents despite the coming official ratification of Armenia-Turkey protocols and the factor of March 1, 2008 events – still affecting Armenian internal policy, MP of Heritage opposition party Larisa Alaverdyan told NEWS.am.
“What escalation can we talk about when majority of the so-called ‘opposition’ forces are actively backing the official policy? Whatever incredible it may sound but even the radical non-parliamentary opposition’s views match the governmental ones on the recent developments in [Armenia’s] foreign policy. The non-parliamentary opposition in the name of Armenian National Congress may triumph that the authorities carry out that what ANC has failed to do,” Alaverdyan stressed.
She deems the processes will not split the society. “Social split will be impossible due to the formula exercised in Armenia, which is – the dominant power + insignificant number of supporters and the opposition + numerous supporters. Only the people involved in the debates will suffer,” Alaverdyan declared.
According to Ankara, official signing of Armenia-Turkey protocols is planned for October 10 in Zurich. Official Yerevan has not commented on it yet.
