Former US Defense Secretary James Mattis believes that Pakistan is the most dangerous state of those with which he had to interact, Business Insider reported.
Mattis was asked to comment on a statement regarding this country in his book called Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead, which was released in the US on Tuesday.
“So when you take the radicalization of society, and you add to it the fastest-growing nuclear arsenal, I think, in the world, you see why one of the points I would make that we need to focus on right now is arms control and non-proliferation efforts,” he said.
According to him, the relations between the USA and Pakistan are very complicated. Given the spread of radical ideas in society and Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal, it’s clear why we need to focus on arms control and efforts to ensure a non-proliferation regime, he noted.
Mattis led the Pentagon in January 2017. He filed for resignation in December 2018. This happened shortly after US President Donald Trump announced a decision to begin the withdrawal of US troops from Syria.
Mattis previously stated that he resigned due to differences of opinion with the US president. Trump repeatedly questioned the results of his work as Minister of Defense and expressed dissatisfaction with his previous decisions.
