YEREVAN. – The submitted legislative initiative envisages the introduction of the institution of law-abiding taxpayers in Armenia. Edvard Hovhannisyan, Chairman of the State Revenue Committee (SRC), said this at Wednesday’s session of the National Assembly during the debates on the package of bills on making amendments to the Tax Code and the related laws.

"The objective of the draft is to promote the voluntary fulfillment of tax obligations by taxpayers, and to strengthen cooperation between the tax authority and the taxpayer, so that tax discipline is not only perceived as a liability, but is also valued, be beneficial and appealing," Hovhannisyan added.

"The bill proposes to provide law-abiding taxpayers with a number of favorable conditions for administration. After the adoption of the bill, the government will decide on the criteria for recognizing a law-abiding taxpayer and the procedure for issuing a [respective] certificate," the SRC chief emphasized.

In addition, with amendments made to the Law on Holidays and Memorable Days, Taxpayer Day will be established in Armenia, and it will be marked on April 19.
