Colonel of Turkish Gendarme Forces Unal Odemis was appointed Adviser to Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev. The appointment was made under a Turkish-Azerbaijani agreement on cooperation in education and training of troops between, Turkish Sabah newspaper reports.

He will serve as Adviser for the formation and training of gendarme units for six months. Similar units in Turkey perform police functions rural areas and oppose Kurdish militants’ attacks.

Turkish military advisers have been working in Azerbaijan for 14 years, but no one has so far been an Adviser of such a high rank, the newspaper writes.
