The relations between Georgia and Russia should gradually be improved, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby stated at a press conference in Georgia.

He reported he discussed Georgian-Russian relations at his meeting with Chairman of Georgian Parliament David Bakradze. The two discussed how the sides can look pragmatically at many issues, including trade and other relations, despite many insurmountable barriers. The situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and national strategy in the territories were on the agenda. The sides also discuss Russia’s commitments to withdraw its troops from Perevi, Akhalgori and Kodori, Semneby said.

Semneby arrived on a visit to Georgia on May 12.
