Confrontation with Russia is disastrous for Georgia. Whoever the Georgian leader is, he should, willingly or unwillingly, reckon with Russia’s interest, stated former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze, Vzglyad reports.

According to him, reckoning with Russia’s interests is in Georgia’s interests. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Ukraine have become Russia’s interests.

If Georgia becomes Russia’s ally, good neighborly relations will be established, Shevardnadze said.

The two states may sign a treaty of alliance enabling them to reestablish economic ties, he stressed.

Commenting on the Georgian oppositionists’ visits to Moscow, he called them “courageous” and necessary for normalizing bilateral relations.
