European Parliament passed resolution on the South Caucasus drafted by Bulgarian MP Evgeni Kirilov.
The resolution says that EU should contribute to stability in the region. The document also mentions that despite Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are partners in the frames of European Neighborhood Policy, EU has no complex regional strategy.
Resolution also says that Europe faces difficult geopolitical situation in its relations with the region, with conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh and Georgia, as well as tension in relations between Armenia and Turkey. Conflicts are unacceptable in the region, resolution reads.
“Interim status for Nagorno-Karabakh could imply interim legitimisation of the de facto authorities there; believes that inter alia in order to raise their credibility with a view to such a prospect, these authorities should rapidly abandon the positions that Nagorno-Karabakh includes all Armenian-occupied Azerbaijani lands and that displaced persons’ right of return cannot even be discussed at the present stage,” reads the report submitted by Evgeni Kirilov.
