Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu called for an end to the status quo in the Middle East and for intensifying the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
Speaking at the UN International Meeting in Support of Israeli-Palestinian peace process, Davutoglu said Turkey is ready to do its utmost to resolve the conflict in the Middle East, Timeturk reports.
The region needs peace and stability as soon as possible, which will solve the problems of the two states, Israel and Palestine, the Turkish FM said. He hopes that Israel will realize the importance of ongoing efforts to settle the conflict.
As to Jerusalem’s status, Davutoglu considers the city, which is important for Christians and Muslims, will be an example of either global peace or global war. All the events occurring in Jerusalem have a global impact, he added.
Early this May, the Palestinian administration headed by Mahmoud Abbas agreed to indirect talks with Israel under U.S. mediation.
