BRUSSELS. - Despite the adoption of the “Resolution on the Armenian Genocide committed in 1915 by the Government of the Young Turks at the head of the Ottoman Empire” on March 26, 1998, Belgian politicians publicly deny its existence, reads the petition of Armenian community of Belgium. The denial was registered in cases of Emir Kir (Socialist Party - PS), Mustafa Öztürk, Sait Köse (Reform Movement - MR), and Mahinur Özdemir (Humanist Democratic Centre - CDH).

The purpose of new petition is to raise awareness among as many people as possible about the reality of the Genocide and the sad fact that it is publicly denied by Belgian politicians. The petitioners call on Emir Kir (PS), Mustafa Öztürk, Sait Köse(MR) and Mahinur Özdemir (CDH) to make a public apology to the Armenian community for the offense. They also urge leaders of the parties Elio di Rupo (PS), Charles Michel (MR), and Joëlle Milquet (CDH) to terminate the affiliation of the deniers of their parties.
