Powerful hurricane Irene is approaching the East Coast of U.S. causing considerable damages to the Carribean. State of emergency is declared in five states Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Maryland and eastern part of North Carolina.

All the state offices will be closed over the weekend. All the forces are mobilized in Washington to eliminate consequences of hurricane. Rail traffic in the eastern coast was stopped.  New York airports suspended operations, in particular aircrafts are banned from landing in John Kennedy airport.  New York subwas was also closed.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency transported food, industrial generators, medicine, bottled water and other supplies to staging bases in North Carolina, New Jersey and Massachusetts, the Los Angeles Times reported.
