BAKU. –President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Monday received the delegation headed by the newly appointed EU special representative for the Southern Caucasus Philippe Lefort.

The sides exchanged thoughts on the Azerbaijan-EU development in various spheres. Besides they touched upon Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijani media informs quoting president’s press service.

Lefort extended greetings of EU Foreign Affairs High Representative Catherine Ashton. According to him, Ashton is highly interested in deepening partner relations with the regiona; states.

Lefort will visit Armenia on September 6-7 within the framework of the regional tour.

French diplomat Lefort was appointed on August 26 and took his office from September. He was succeeded by EU special representative for Crisis in Georgia Pierre Morel and EU special representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby. His mandate is valid till June 30, 2012.
