The prospect of Georgia's membership in the EU depends entirely on the results of the parliamentary elections in the country, said Georgia President Salome Zourabichvili.

These elections will be held on October 26.

The Georgia president’s aforesaid statement made at a press conference was quoted by Sova.

According to Zourabichvili, now Georgia's prospects for EU integration have stopped.

"It [i.e. Georgia’s EU membership] is the task of our whole day and the whole society. It completely depends on the elections. Everyone is waiting for us. Everything is suspended, but not stopped, not frozen, and not considered permanent. This is stopping ... before the elections, so that everyone can see what the will of the people of Georgia is," Zourabichvili noted.

She is convinced that Georgia deserves to return to the path of European integration.

"We are a European country. We have come a long way for this, which gives us the right to demand a quick return to that path. It depends on our voters," Zourabichvili summed up.

Relations between Georgia and the West have worsened dramatically in recent months, primarily because of the controversial Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence adopted by the Georgian authorities.

And at their summit held in late June, EU leaders announced the de facto halting of Georgia's European integration process.
