YEREVAN. – In his interview with Aravot daily on Friday, Armenian MP Vardan Ayvazyan said he is preparing to welcome the New Year in an “ordinary” fashion, the daily writes.

“[But] he did not specify as what he means by ‘ordinary.’ To our question, ‘how much does the New Year cost for you?’, the MP responded: “That’s my wife’s matter, how would I know? I gave my salary card to my wife, [and] I’m done!’ To our question as to whether the people could celebrate the New Year this year with their limited salaries, he responded: ‘Which person do you mean? Those who live on an average salary receive 110 thousand [drams] [approx. US$ 289], and the person who receives 110 thousand could celebrate an average New Year. And when we stressed, ‘with a pork leg?’, Mr. Ayvazyan scoffed: ‘Now do you want them to [celebrate] with black caviar?’”, Aravot writes.
