YEREVAN. – Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian paid a working visit to Latvia, on Wednesday, where he was received by Latvian President Andris Berzins.

Berzins noted that Latvia is interested in further deepening and strengthening relations with Armenia, and that his country is prepared exert additional efforts in that regard, MFA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. 

In his turn, Edward Nalbandian conveyed, to the Latvian President, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s greetings and well wishes. 

The interlocutors reflected on the continuity of high level visits, the steps toward stimulating bilateral cooperation, and regional issues. 

Also, Armenia’s FM briefed Latvia’s President on the Karabakh peace process, and Armenia’s approach toward the solution of regional problems.   

They also examined Armenia-EU relations, and, in this format, the Armenia-Latvia cooperation.

Edward Nalbandian’s next meeting was with his colleague, Latvian FM Edgars Rinkevich.

The two FMs noted that relations between Armenia and Latvia are developing dynamically.

They also discussed cooperation and supporting of one another’s candidates within international organizations.

In the context of Armenia-EU relations, Nalbandian and Rinkevich exchanged views on cooperation within the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy Action Plan and the Eastern Partnership Project.

The two ministers also underscored the need to strengthen and expand economic cooperation, and to have a more active cultural exchange.

Upon the Latvian FM’s request, Edward Nalbandian gave details on the latest developments in the Karabakh peace process, and, in this context, they stressed that the problem must only be solved peacefully. 

The interlocutors also exchanged views on regional matters, including Iran’s nuclear program. In this regard, Edward Nalbandian reaffirmed Armenia’s position that this problem needs to be resolved through dialogue, talks, and mutual accordance.   

Also, Edward Nalbandian invited his Latvian counterpart to Armenia. Accepting the invitation, Edgars Rinkevich proposed to carry out the visit in the latter half of the current year. 

After their meeting, the two FMs held a joint press conference. 

In Riga, Edward Nalbandian was also hosted in the Latvian Saeima (Parliament), where he met with Saeima’s Speaker Solvita Aboltina.

Ms. Aboltina underscored the Latvian-Armenian community’s positive involvement and role in Latvia’s development.  

At the Latvian parliament, Edward Nalbandian also gave an in-depth interview to Latvia’s leading Latvijas Avize newspaper.

Nalbandian also met with members of the Saeima’s Latvia-Armenia Interparliamentary Friendship Group. 

Ending his visit to Latvia, Armenia’s FM headed from Riga to Vilnius, Lithuania.
