YEREVAN. - According to the logic of ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) shoemakers must be included in the National Assembly to protect the rights of shoemakers, economists must be there to protect the rights of economists and so on, the board secretary of oppositional Heritage party Karine Hakobyan announced during a press conference on Thursday.
She was surprised by the statement made by RPA member Rafik Petrosyan, according to whom businessmen should be in the parliament in order to protect their rights. Moreover, she is sure that most of the MPs do not have any idea what the parliament is.
“A member of the National Assembly should be honest, principal, should be a patriot and posses great knowledge and be open-minded. In that case we would not have the picture we have now. Currently the National Assembly is a quilt which everyone pulls towards themselves for their own interests. If the president announces that businessmen and oligarchs must not be included in the National Assembly election list, the nomination of businessmen usually proposed by Prosperous Party of Armenia (PAP) should not be accepted by the Central Electoral Commission. However I am talking not only about the businessmen of PAP,” Karine Hakobyan mentioned.
According to the representative of Heritage party, very soon there will be changes with the participation of the public as there is no alternative anymore.
According to her, the electoral list of Heritage party is not ready yet. The candidates will also be nominated by the majoritarian system although Heritage party stands for 100 percent proportional system.
