  • A soldier has died in Azerbaijani shooting, the spokesperson of the Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan wrote on Facebook.

Hovhannisyan noted that Arman Bulghadaryan (born in 1995), a contract serviceman of the Armenian Armed Forces, was killed Sunday in the northeastern sector of the border, by the shot fired by the adversary.

According to Armenia’s Vanadzorn mayor, the soldier was from Vanadzor and had completed his compulsory military service in 2015 and left for Russia, but he had returned to Armenia a year later and had started contract military service.

Earlier, on Saturday, a contract soldier has been injured in Armenia’s Tavush province. 

Another contract soldier, Vladimir Osipyan, was hospitalized on Sunday after receiving a gunshot wound in his left elbow.

According to the hospital, his life is not in danger and he will be discharged in the near future.

  • The powers of judge Davit Grigoryan, who is presiding over the criminal case involving Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan and several other former senior officials, have been suspended by force of law.

Armenia's Prosecutor General filed a petition with the Supreme Judicial Council for consenting to launching of criminal proceedings against the judge on three counts, and along the lines of the criminal case being investigated under the Criminal Code article on official forgery.

Earlier this year Grigoryan had commuted Kocharyan’s pretrial measure of custody and ruled for his release from custody.

Spain defeated Portugal 2-0 at the Republican Stadium in Yerevan.

Valencia attacker Ferran Torres scored the double.

  • One person has died and several others are injured after a minivan from Armenia had an accident Sunday evening in Russia. A minivan and a small car crashed on a highway in Tyumen Oblast. An officer from the aforesaid regional department said that a car and a minivan, which was traveling from Armenia to Omsk, had collided.

In his words, a woman was killed and six people, including a 15-year-old, were injured in this crash.

The trek to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro took a total of 8 days, from July 11 to 18. When he reached the summit, Anthony raised an Armenian flag that kept in his Pilibos fanny pack throughout his climb and returned to Los Angeles on Saturday, July 20.

“Being able to raise that flag was my way of paying homage to my community, family, teachers, schools, and mentors for their effort in not only my development as a proud Armenian but the development of Armenian youth in general,” he said.
