YEREVAN. – The powers of Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction Judge Davit Grigoryan have been suspended. Grigor Bekmezyan, a member of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) of Armenia, on Sunday confirmed this information to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Tomorrow the SJC will make a statement about the rest of the details,” he added.

Judge Grigoryan, however, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that he is not aware of the decision to suspend his powers.

“No one has informed me [about it],” he said, noting that he is still on vacation.

The judge’s attorney, Georgi Melikyan, has petitioned to the SJC on the violation of David Grigoryan’s rights, and has submitted a crime report to Police. According to the lawyer, the judge’s office was sealed prior to receiving a court order for a search warrant, and this, according to him, is unlawful.

On July 16, Judge Davit Grigoryan’s office was searched and sealed. Melikyan had informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that as a result of the search, documents and drives related to the criminal case involving second President Robert Kocharyan were seized. According to him, this way Grigoryan’s administration of justice has been obstructed.

Davit Grigoryan is the judge presiding over the criminal case involving Robert Kocharyan and several other former senior officials, and he had commuted Kocharyan’s pretrial measure and ruled for his release from custody.
