A new charge—misuse of public funds—has been brought against ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili of Georgia, informed the Prosecutor’s Office of the country.

The charge is brought in connection with the Georgian Special State Protection Service’s misuse of more than 8.8 million laris (approx. $5 million) upon instruction by then President Saakashvili.

The prosecution argues that these funds are spent on the cook, massage therapist, yacht rental in Italy, and several other services.

If Saakashvili is found guilty of this charge, he will face a seven- to eleven-year prison sentence, reported Gruzia Online news agency of Georgia.
