YEREVAN. – Armenia Chief of Police Vladimir Gasparyan is not familiar with the course of the investigation into the tragic events that occurred in capital city Yerevan on March 1, 2008 because, as per Gasparyan, this is not within his powers.

The Police chief stated the aforesaid during Saturday’s instructional drills of the Police Force.

“I, as Military Police chief at the time and as Police chief now, have not dealt with this case.

“My involvement on March 1 was to the extent that the Military Police had undertaken the protection of the Government Building, and I, together with an operative team, participated in the [subsequent] inspection of the area,” Vladimir Gasparyan stressed.

Former Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan, who now heads the Investigation Committee of Armenia, on Thursday had told reporters that all the circumstances of the case into the March 1 tragedy are revealed, but there are several undisclosed individual circumstances.
