YEREVAN. – The Government of Armenia does not yet pledge to pay off the accumulated debts in salaries to the employees of Nairit chemical rubber plant of capital city of Yerevan.

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Yervand Zakharyan, stated about the aforementioned at Thursday’s Cabinet session.

Zakharyan assured that his ministry has made no promises to pay the remaining overdue wages, and announced that these payments can be made solely after a partial sale of the plant’s assets.

“We are starting to place international announcements about tenders, and want to accelerate the sales process and pay off the debts as quickly as possible,” the minister added.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, on the other hand, noted that paying off the salary debts on the account of the state-owned energy companies is getting complicated now.

At this point, the Nairit chemical rubber plant’s total debt amounts to 102 billion drams (approx. $215,184,825). Around $15 million of these arrears are the 18 to 24 months of unpaid wages of the plant employees.
