YEREVAN. – The provisions on Karabakh contained in the Riga summit declaration were if not pro-Armenian, then at least not anti-Armenian, secretary of Heritage faction Tevan Poghosyan said.
The declaration contained one sentence that reiterated signing parties' full support to the mediation efforts by the co-chairs of the Minsk Group on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Tevan Poghosyan said the EU expressed support to the negotiation process based on Co-Chairs' statements.
He expressed hope that Armenia's Foreign Ministry will use this wording in the right way.
Asked about Azerbaijan's conduct and initial refusal to sign the declaration, the MP said: “Everyone realized that what was done by Azerbaijan FM Elmar Mammadyarov was unacceptable. Similar statements are disappointing and increase distrust. I am happy that representatives of my country did not occur in such a situation.”
During the second day of the summit, head of Azerbaijani delegation Elmar Mammadyarov refused to sign the final declaration because of not enough mentioning the Karabakh issue.
