YEREVAN. – Dersim (today’s Tunceli Province of Turkey) Armenian filmmaker and documentarian Uğur Egemen İres is in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, and with his film entitled “Pure State of the Soul.”

In the movie, İres depicts the constant arguments between his grandfather, Harutyun İres (Yeritsyan), and grandmother, after his grandfather is baptized and he reveals his Armenian identity in Turkey.

In the filmmaker’s words, he tried, through his family story, to show the challenges facing the hidden Armenians in Turkey.   

Harutyun İres, who likewise has come to Armenia with his grandson, said at Wednesday’s press conference that it was difficult for him to be baptized and to reveal his Armenian identity in Turkey because, in addition to public pressure, he had had major respective disagreements with his wife, who was the only one in the family to refuse to reveal her Armenian identity.

“Pure State of the Soul” will be screened on Thursday at Yerevan State University.
