Redundancies in the police system are possible, Chief of Armenia Police Vladimir Gasparyan told journalists in Sardarapat Saturday.

To the question on whether there might be redundancies in the system, the Chief of Police said: “Of course, there might. [But] The Government has nothing to do with this, since we are implementing a program of reforms. This is a constant process and redundancies take place every year. We move people from more passive services and the central apparatus and replenish our internal service at their expense,” Gasparyan said.

He also recalled the establishment of community police and police duties at schools.

To the question as to why the number of policemen is kept secret, Gasparyan said: “This doesn’t depend on the Chief of Police. The law on this was adopted by the MPs in due time.”
