“Iran and Russia have prepared all the needed technical and economic plans to build a highway to link Iran’s Northern city of Rasht to the Russian capital city of Moscow via Azerbaijan,” said an Iranian official, FARS agency reports.

Rasht is a major trade center and transport hub between Caucasus, Russia and Iran using the port of Bandar-e Anzali. Rasht is also a major tourist center with the resort of Masouleh in the adjacent mountains and the beaches of Caspian as some of the major attractions.

The decision on the construction of the highway was an annex to the agreement on construction of Rasht-Astara-Moscow highway, concluded in 2008.
