YEREVAN. – The opposition Way Out bloc will pass the threshold for obtaining seats in the parliament of Armenia, Caucasus Institute Deputy Director, political scientist Sergey Minasyan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Reflecting on the parliamentary election chances of this political coalition—which comprises the opposition Bright Armenia, Republic, and Civil Contract Parties—as well as of the alliance between ex-FM Vartan Oskanian, former presidential representative in National Assembly Viktor Dallakyan, and Democratic Party of Armenia Chairman Aram Sargsyan, Minasyan noted as follows: “Since the first bloc is relatively new, there is a certain novelty; they have a certain positive image. Second, they are trying to act in a so-called pro-Western opposition role, which exists in the Armenian political system ever since 2003 and 2004. Considering all this, I believe that the said bloc will at least pass the minimum passing threshold at parliament.”

As per the analyst, however, the situation is much more complicated when it comes to the second political alliance being formed because, on the one hand, we can speak about seasoned politicians, with respect to Oskanian and ex-Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan.

“[But] on the other hand, the very factor that they were involved in the power system [in Armenia] one way or another and numerous problems of the incumbent authorities are being linked to their name, may cause some problems for the bloc,” concluded Sergey Minasyan.
