MOSCOW. - Prior to the meeting in the Reception House, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday opened an exhibition dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

At the opening, FM Nalbandian noted: ''I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have organized this exhibition dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our states. Today we launch the events dedicated to this quarter-of-century anniversary.

The historic documents displayed at the exhibition are the impressive indication of the path which we have passed since the memorable day of 3 April 1993, when the new page of the Armenian-Russian relations opened. Of course, Armenian and Russian peoples are linked by solid ties of friendship which have passed the test of time and history over centuries.

We have constantly been together, both in times of peace and during the years of difficult ordeals. Currently, the Armenian-Russian relations are again serve as an exemplary model of bilateral cooperation, being probably the most successful and efficient one in the post-Soviet territory.

Armenia and Russia are linked by ally cooperation relations. It is impossible to be an ally in a certain sphere and not in others.  That quality of relations is expressed by the full volume of interstate cooperation. Our bilateral relations are distinguished by close foreign policy juxtaposition,  efficient cooperation in the military and political, as well as military and technical spheres, successful activity in trade and economic, energy and transportation spheres, decentralized collaboration intensifying with each year and consistent development of cooperation in the spheres of culture, science and education. Russia is our main commercial partner and the main investor in the Armenian economy. Nearly 1,400 joint enterprises operate in our country and more than 200 bilateral documents have been signed.

The Armenian-Russian interstate relations are strengthened within the framework of international and regional cooperation due to our efficient cooperation, in respect to which—along with the UN and OSCE—I would like to point out the CSTO and COS, and, of course, the Eurasian Economic Union.

Regardless of the nature of interstate relations, they cannot be indeed strong if there is no warmth between the nations and people. In this regard, I would like to specifically mention the deep nature of friendship ties and mutual sympathy linking our nations and ordinary people.

Currently, our joint efforts are aimed at continuing to identify new promising directions of our strategic cooperation based on that solid ground, enriching it with that new content,'' Nalbandian noted.
