US  intends to impose new sanctions on Iran for ongoing “malign activities” in non-nuclear areas such as ballistic missile development and support for terrorism, White House spokesman told reporters, RIA Novosti reported.

He noted that the sanctions would not have relation to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which Iran signed with the international community, including the US, two years ago. Within this agreement, Washington has lifted a number of sanctions against Tehran.

At the same time, he did not specify when and against whom exactly sanctions would be imposed.

The White House representative added that the president and the U.S. Secretary of State intend to emphasize in the quarterly report to the Congress that Iran remains one of the most dangerous threats to U.S. interests and to regional stability.
