Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi discussed Israeli-Palestinian and Syrian conflicts during a telephone talk, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“Foreign ministers expressed views on current regional problems focusing on the Israeli-Palestinian settlement, following the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” said the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The sides also discussed Syrian settlement to maintain the cessation of hostilities, expand humanitarian assistance to affected populations, to restart Syrian negotiations within UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

The consistent efforts in Astana, where Jordan is an observer, and Russian, Iranian and Turkish initiative to convene a Syrian national dialogue congress in Sochi, are meant to provide conditions for more constructive talks in Geneva, noted Lavrov.

Iran, Russia, and Turkey have organized a new round of peace talks between the Syrian government and the opposition in Astana. Another round of inter-Syrian consultations under the UN aegis ended last week. Syrian National Dialogue Congress is to be held in Sochi.
