USAID Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Brock Bierman pledged to continue Artsakh de-mining efforts through The HALO Trust.

His comment came in response to questioning by Congressman Brad Sherman during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing earlier today, the Armenian National Committee of America reported.

Bierman noted that the US has sent over $43 million in U.S. assistance to Artsakh to date. 97.6% of areas scheduled for de-mining through U.S. assistance has been completed, reported Bierman, affecting over 125,000 lives in the region.

House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe Chairman Dana Rohrabacher noted that demining is among the best projects that the U.S. can fund.

Rep. Sherman also noted that he will be submitting a “question for the record” regarding U.S. negotiation of a double tax treaty with Armenia.

In his testimony, Bierman noted that he has met with Armenian diasporan groups a number of times to discuss avenues of cooperation of aid to Armenia and the Region. During a recent discussions with Bierman, ANCA urged U.S. assistance for Artsakh de-mining and support for the Lady Cox Rehabilitation Center in Stepanakert - both part of the organization's 360-degree advocacy for Artakh freedom.
