Artur Vardanyan, the “ringleader” of the armed group that was rendered ineffective in 2015 in Nork-Marash district of Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, will remain in custody.

A Yerevan court of general jurisdiction on Monday denied the defense’s motion to have Vardanyan released on a 1mn-dram (approx. US$2,060) bail.

Sirush Aghvanyan, one of the defendant’s attorneys, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that they soon might make a new motion for commuting the precautionary measure of detention which was implemented for Vardanyan.

Artur Vardanyan is the sole remaining defendant who is still in custody in connection with this armed group case.

As per the indictment, this armed group comprising 20 people had planned to forcibly seize power in Armenia.
